My three submissions!
Every year the Atlanta Journal Constitution hosts and sponsors one of the most spectacular races in the country if not the world. With Literal thousands of participants, whether they be runners or volunteers, this race has been a part of Atlanta’s history for the better part of the last century. Every year as the runners warm up their bodies, artists like myself warm up our hands and brains for what arguably is the most important part of the race. The T-shirts! A lot of research was poured into this mix of designs as well as dedication and excitement. I was using this opportunity to practice my hand at Adobe Illustrator, a nifty software indeed. The prompt for this years competition was the evolution of Atlanta over the last fifty years; the race started in 1970; and how it might evolve over the next fifty years. Whether this meant politically, religiously, economically, agriculturally, or culturally was up to the artists. Now I will dive into my work and their inspirations. Design one: Skylines through the years This one is the weird one out of the bunch. With its stacking composition and its timely imagery, this design holds a special place in my heart. Design two: It’s a Part of me I had so much trouble trying to make the silloette of the shoes translate to both be sneakers as well as lungs. I had nearly given up if not for my professor telling me that art happens when you want to smash your work against a wall, needless to say my computer was too costly so I just kept working at it. Design Three: The New Age The prompt spoke of evolution and a new era for the race and for Atlanta, so I thought it would be nice if I made a modern symbol for the peach. I made quite a few iterations but ultimately went with this design due to the sleek nature of the image in addition to popular demand. I wanted to make use of the bright tones since the race happens in the summer. What a joy it was to explore this design!
